Palawan’s Kalayaan re-elects Del Mundo

KALAYAAN — The Kalayaan municipality, which includes the highly contested Pagasa Island, re-elected its mayor Roberto Del Mundo.

Kalayaan, with its 391 electoral votes concluded its vote counting at 9:16 a.m. Tuesday.


Del Mundo scored 147 votes, defeating his opponent Rodrigo Jaca who garnered only 86. Del Mundo is now the fifth to hold the office after Kalayaan was “demilitarized” in 1988.

Joining Del Mundo in the proclamation this afternoon is Hermoso Ornopia for the vice mayor seat and five elected councilors: Rolland Palay; Ramon Alaska; Jun Bito-onon; Walter Conde; and Nonelon Balbotin. (Editor: Leti Boniol)
