Village chair held for alleged vote-buying in Danao City
CEBU CITY — A village chairman in Danao City, Cebu was arrested on Monday after he was allegedly caught in the act of buying votes.
Joselito Cane, village chief of Lo-oc, Danao, was collared through a citizen arrest inside a beach resort in the barangay.
Michael Enriquez, who is running for vice mayor, allegedly caught Cane, holding a masterlist while giving money to Jetro Imalay and Marilou Juntilla.
When frisked, at least P10,000 worth of bills were found in the possession of the barangay captain.
Cane was later released upon the advice of the Commission on Elections in Danao City.
Lawyer Ferdinand Gujilde, Danao City election officer, said questions on propriety might be raised on the citizen arrest made by a candidate.
Instead, Guijilde advised Enriquez to file charges against Cane. (Editor: Leti Z. Boniol)
