Villagers allegedly threatened in Cebu’s mountain villages

CEBU CITY — Armed men were reported roaming the city’s mountain villages, telling villagers not to vote.

In Barangay Sudlon II in Cebu City, some residents were afraid to cast their votes after some armed men fired shots in the village past 9 p.m. on Sunday.

“Some of them were afraid to go to their polling precincts. They do not want to vote anymore,” said Sudlon II Barangay Captain Precillo Albores.

He said residents in their village heard rapid gunshots near their barangay hall on Sunday evening although no bullet holes were seen after the incident.

There were also no reported casualties.

He said people saw men on board some motorcycles in their barangay minutes before they heard the gunshots. “This is really intended to threaten us,” said Albores. (Editor: Leti Z. Boniol)
