MANILA, Philippines — Quezon City Rep. Vincent “Bingbong” Crisologo, who is running for city mayor, and his son, lawyer Frederick William, nicknamed Edrix, were arrested on Sunday for alleged involvement in vote-buying in Barangay Bahay Toro in Quezon City.

According to Brig. Gen. Joselito Esquivel, chief of the the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), the Crisologos were arrested on Aqueda Street, Road 20 in Barangay Toro.

Crisologo’s campaign manager, Edwin Rodriguez, said they only went to the said area after receiving a report that police officers had raided the house of one of their poll watchers for alleged vote-buying.

Following the arrest, the elder Crisologo said that their rights were not read to them and that they were not informed of the nature of the arrest.

Through a Facebook post, Crisologo sought the help of his supporters, asking them to go to Camp Karingal, headquarters of the QCPD, to press for his release.

“Hindi po kami binasahan ng aming Miranda rights nor we were informed of why we were arrested,” Crisologo said in a statement on Facebook.

“Ako po ay humihingi sa Inyo ng suporta at magtungo dito sa Camp Karingal upang kami ay ipagdasal upang mapakawalan,” he added.

Crisologo is running for mayor under PDP-Laban, the party of President Rodrigo Duterte, against incumbent Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte.
