Cops arrest man for alleged vote-buying racket in Malabon

MANILA, Philippines — Just days before election day, a 46-year-old suspect in a vote-buying activity was arrested in Malabon on Friday night.

Police arrested Joel Adoza along Governor Pascual Avenue in Barangay Conception.

Recovered were 17 pieces of small envelopes containing P300 worth of cash each and 15 pieces of unsigned acknowledgement receipt with the name of Mac Tiangco, candidate for Malabon councilor, and a list of “voter beneficiares.”

The suspect will be brought to Malabon police station for proper disposition and filing of appropriate charges.

The Philippine National Police recorded at least 24 people arrested for alleged vote-buying nationwide.

Vote-buying is an election offense that carries a penalty of one to six years imprisonment, according to the Commission on Elections. (Editor: Jonathan P. Vicente)
