2 die in Quezon road accidents

LUCENA CITY, Philippines  – Two motorists were killed in two separate accidents in Calauag town and Tayabas City in Quezon province on Thursday and Friday, police said.

Police said Eugene Danghel, 54, was driving a Nissan Urvan van towards Manila when he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree at the roadside along the Maharlika Highway in Barangay (village) Lungib in Calauag at about 9:25 p.m. Thursday.

According to police, Danghel was injured but his passenger, Pastor Minguillan Jr., 65, died on the spot.

Police said Danghel was negotiating a descending and curved section of the highway when he lost control of the steering wheel.

Meanwhile in Tayabas City, motorcyclist Manny Escote, 23, accidentally hit a concrete post of a bridge along the provincial road in Barangay Baguio at around 12:30 a.m. Friday.

Police said Escote died while being rushed to the Tayabas Community Hospital at the city center. /muf
