MANILA, Philippines—Two men died and one was left injured when a bomb went off in Datu Udin Sinsuat in Maguindanao, where Governor Ismael Mangudadatu was attending a town event, police said Thursday.
Superintendent Marcelo Pintac, Maguindanao police director, said the blast happened at Barangay Dalican at 10:45 a.m. as Datu Udin Sinsuat town was celebrating its founding anniversary.
Asked if Mangundadatu could be the target of the attack, Pintac only said that the governor was “800 meters away from the blast site.”
The type of explosive device used has yet be determined, Pintac said, adding that investigation was ongoing.
He said that the still unidentified injured person was rushed to the hospital.
All victims have yet to be identified, Pintac said.
On August 15, Mangudadatu survived a roadside explosion that hit his convoy in Tacurong City, Sultan Kudarat. The blast however killed one of his men while seven others was wounded.
