MANILA, Philippines – Senator Sherwin Gatchalian on Wednesday said he may run for higher public office if he thinks he has “created a lot of change” and “improved the lives of constituents” as a senator.
“On a higher office, masasagot ko lang yan if I feel that I have created enough change here in my stint as a senator,” Gatchalian said in the Meet Inquirer forum.
“My gauge is really, if I created a lot of change as a senator, if I improved the lives of our constituents as a senator given then two committees assigned to me then maybe I can think of that,” he added.
He, however, said he can only give a definite answer if he is running for higher office in 2022.
In first joining public service, Gatchalian said his motivation was to only change the city of Valenzuela.
Gatchalian served as Valenzuela City mayor from 2004 to 2013.
Gatchalian also served as a representative of the Valenzuela’s first district from 2001 to 2004 and from 2013 to 2016.
He later sought a Senate seat to bring his experience from the local level to the national level.
“I wanted to bring my experience from the local level to the national level and I’m very blessed I’m given this opportunity to serve the public on a national scale,” he said.
“That’s why I’m really putting all of my heart and soul and sweat to make sure that the task given to me… that we maximize everything that we can to implement change,” Gatchalian added./gsg
