MANILA, Philippines—The Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) on Tuesday said it will deploy 300,000 volunteers nationwide to help monitor the May 13 midterm elections.
“In 2010, we deployed half a million volunteers. In 2016 elections we deployed about 600,000 volunteers. In the midterm elections, we will be deploying 300,000 volunteers nationwide,” PPCRV Executive Director Maribel Buenaobra said during the launch of the poll watchdog’s command center for its unofficial parallel vote counting.
The church-based poll watchdog explained that volunteers in midterm elections were usually fewer than those in national elections.
“Typically, the volunteers for midterm elections are at that level. For the national elections usually nasa 600,000. Judging from experience,” Agnes Gervacio, PPCRV Media Director, told reporters.
The PPCRV which has been accredited by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) as citizens’ arm for the May 13 elections, added that those who want to volunteer may still register.
Those who would like to become PPCRV volunteers must be at least 18 years old, a registered voter, not related to any serving Board of Election Inspectors, and not related to any candidate. /muf
