DAVAO CITY, Philippines – A 4.3 magnitude earthquake struck the waters off Surigao del Sur at dawn on Wednesday, May 8, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
Phivolcs recorded the quake’s epicenter at 69 kilometers southwest of Marihatag town at around 2:01 a.m.
Philvocs added that it had a depth focus of 17 kilometers and was tectonic in origin.
Another tremblor followed along the same area at around 2:20 a.m., recorded at magnitude 2.2.
Philvocs traced the quake’s epicenter at 26 kilometers southwest of the same town and at a depth of 22 kilometers.
No aftershocks and damages were expected, Phivolcs said. /cbb
