Mom seeks help for daughter who had leukemia relapse

MANILA, Philippines — Six-year-old Danica Manuel, who has acute lymphocytic leukemia, was just a few sessions away from completing a 12-cycle chemotherapy maintenance program when doctors gave her mother, Analiza, the bad news.

“Danica was scheduled for the 10th cycle when a laboratory test which is conducted every three months showed that the cancer cells have spread to her brain,” Analiza said.

Her daughter was diagnosed with the disease in January 2015 when she was just 2.

Doctors at Philippine Children’s Medical Center (PCMC) have recommended that Manuel stop her chemotherapy sessions and undergo 10 days of radiotherapy at the University of Santo Tomas this month.

Afterward, she will undergo more tests at PCMC to determine if the cancer cells have spread further.

Analiza, who has four children with her husband, a farmer from San Miguel, Bulacan province, asked Inquirer readers for help in raising the P65,000 they will need for the tests and Manuel’s medicine.
