Health Workers’ Day is observed every May 7 by virtue of Republic Act No. 10069 signed on April 6, 2010, by then President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
It aims to give due recognition to the important role and contribution of health workers who provide vital health services to Filipinos.
Health workers include all those engaged in health and health-related work.
According to preliminary results of the 2016 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry released last year by the Philippine Statistics Authority, there were 140,252 workers in the human health and social work activities sector in 2016.
In the National Capital Region, there were 45,012 health and social workers in 2016. —Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
