LEGAZPI CITY – A Special Investigation Team was formed by the Catanduanes provincial police to look into the intrusion of armed men in the residence of Catanduanes Rep. Cesar Sarmiento over the weekend.
Last Saturday, it was reported that several heavily-armed masked men barged into the residence of Sarmiento in Barangay Ibong Sapa in Virac and hogtied security guards on duty and two bystanders.
The armed men reportedly tried to enter the rooms of the house but failed.
They fled aboard a maroon SUV after the incident.
Police Col. Paul Abay, Catanduanes provincial police chief, said the investigating team is still validating whether or not the incident is related to the forthcoming midterm elections.
“The investigation is ongoing and we have yet to establish the motive. We are still getting the affidavit of the persons inside the house,” he said. /gsg
