Sister replaces jailed brother as board member of Bohol district 2
TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol — President Duterte has named the replacement of Bohol 2nd district Board Member Niño Rey Boniel who languishes in jail for allegedly killing his wife.
Boniel’s sister, Vierna Mae Boniel-Maglasang, was chosen to replace her brother last March 22 but Malacañang released her appointment only on April 29.
Boniel-Maglasang assumed her seat on Friday.
She took her oath before Board Member Benjie Arcamo and was accompanied by her mother Marina, Bien Unido Mayor Rene Borinaga, and Rep. Erico Aristotle Aumentado.
Boniel-Maglasang, in an interview, said she was grateful to President Duterte for giving her the trust.
“I will continue the good services of my brother,” said the board member who has two months left in office.
Her brother is facing charges for allegedly killing his wife, former Bien Unido Mayor Gisela Bendong-Boniel in 2017.
The board member tendered his irrevocable resignation effective June 7, 2018.
Boniel-Maglasang, who is running for board member in the 2nd district of Bohol in the May 13 elections, served as the legislative staff assistant III of Boniel’s office.
