MANILA, Philippines — A suspected gunrunner was killed by the police during the service of a search warrant in Novaliches, Quezon City on Thursday.
The Novaliches Police on Friday added that slain suspect Ernest Reyes, 30, was also included in the drugs watchlist of Barangay San Agustin.
Police said Reyes was about to be served his warrant at around 4:30 p.m. when the shootout happened. The search warrant was for a violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, police said.
According to police, Reyes drew a caliber. 38 revolver and shot Patrolman Francis Suva who was wearing a bullet-proof vest. Police officers then returned fire, killing Reyes.
Aside from the caliber .38 revolver with two spent shells, police also recovered from Reyes a .22 revolver, three misfired bullets, and a live bullet.
Also seized from Reyes were a large sachet containing suspected “shabu,” and two aluminum foil strips with traces of suspected “shabu,” police said. /muf
