Registering a passing rate of 89.306 percent, Ateneo de Manila University graduate Sean James B. Borja bested 8,155 who took the grueling four-day bar examination at the University of Santo Tomas (UST) in November.
Two University of San Carlos (Cebu) graduates, Marcley Augustus Natu-el and Mark Lawrence Badayos, ranked second and third, respectively, with a a rating of 87.53% and 85.84%,
The other top ten Bar exam passers are: Daniel John Fordan (Ateneo de Manila University), 85.443%; Katrina Monica Gaw (Ateneo de Manila University), 85.421%; Nadaine Tongco (University of the Philippines), 85.032%; Patricia Sevilla (University of the Philippines), 84.859%; Kathrine Ting (De La Salle University-Manila), 84.857%; Jebb Lynus Cane (University of San Carlos), 84.805% and Alan Joel Pita (University of San Carlos), 84.693%
Of the 8,155 examinees, only 1,800 passed the 2018 bar examination, yielding a 22.07 percent passing rate this year.
The percentage is lower than the 25.5 percent (1,724 out of 6,748) examinees who passed the 2017 bar examinations.

The results were announced following a special en banc session where High Court magistrates deliberated on the bar exam results.

This year’s bar examination chairman, Associate Justice Mariano C. Del Castillo said the oath taking of the successful bar examinees will be held on June 13, 2019, at 2 p.m. at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC). The signing of the Rolls of Attorney will start the following day, June 14.
Bar examinees hurdled a total of eight subjects for four consecutive Sundays in November: Political Law and Labor Law, Civil Law and Taxation, Mercantile Law and Criminal Law, Remedial Law and Legal Ethics and Practical Exercises.
The bar examiners for each of the eight subjects are Atty. Carlo L. Cruz (Political & Public International Law); Atty. Hans Leo J. Cacdac (Labor Law & Social Legislation); Atty. Ma. Ngina Teresa V. Chan-Gonzaga (Civil Law); Atty. Carlos G. Baniqued (Taxation); Dean Cesar L. Villanueva (Mercantile Law); (Retired Court of Appeals) Justice Edgardo P. Cruz (Criminal Law); Atty. Tranquil G.S.
