Boy, 7, dies after accidentally drinking silver cleaner in softdrink bottle

MANILA, Philippines — A 7-year-old boy died Thursday after accidentally drinking silver cleaner placed in a softdrink bottle, Makati police said.

Neighbors rushed Rain Mendoza to Ospital ng Makati after the child was discovered lying on the floor of their toilet with “stiffening muscles and rolling eyeballs.”

The victim’s mother told the police investigator that she saw in their toilet an empty softdrink bottle that contained silver cleaner.

She said her son accidentally consumed the chemical concoction that is used to cleanse silver wares.

At 4:00 a.m., Mendoza was declared dead by his attending physician.

The doctor said the cause of the child’s death was cyanide ingestion. /kga
