Gunman shoots house of ex-Ecija village chief
JAEN, Nueva Ecija, Philippines — An unidentified man in a blue sedan opened fire at the house of a former village chief in Barangay (village) Malabon Kaingin here at 7 p.m. on Wednesday (May 1).
Police said the suspect drove away after shooting the house of Roberto Manliclic, who is associated with incumbent Mayor Sylvia Austria. No one was hurt in the attack, police said.
According to Major Erwin Ferry, town police chief, the gunman may have been targeting Manliclic’s 51-year-old relative, Nestor Santos, 51, who was seated outside the house during the attack.
Ferry said investigators have not ruled out the possibility that the attack was politically-motivated. /muf
