Power supply alert up over Luzon grid
MANILA, Philippines – The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) raised a yellow alert over the Luzon grid Thursday afternoon.
In an advisory, the NGCP said the yellow alert will be in effect from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The NGCP said that available capacity for the country’s largest grid is at 10,870 megawatts, with demand peaking at 10,280 megawatts.
“Details on the cause to be announced by the Department of Energy (DOE) later in the day,” the advisory said.
The DOE earlier explained that a yellow alert is usually raised when “a grid’s reserve power — the difference between supply and demand — is below the required level.”
A yellow alert will not lead to power outages, the DOE added. /gsg
