MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said heavy rains may be experienced in some parts of Luzon and Mindanao on Wednesday night.
In a thunderstorm advisory released at 5 p.m., Pagasa said heavy rain shower with lightning and strong winds are expected over Nueva Ecija and Pampanga within the next one to two hours.
In a separate advisory, Pagasa said that parts of Bukidnon, Lanao del Sur, North Cotabato, Maguindanao, South Cotabato, General Santos, Zamboanga del Sur, and Zamboanga Sibugay will also experience moderate to heavy rains with lightning and strong winds within the next one to two hours.
“All are advised to take precautionary measures against the impacts associated with these hazards which include flash floods and landslides,” Pagasa said.
The forecast of heavy rain showers in some provinces of Luzon and Mindanao comes despite “dangerous” heat index reported in some parts of the country.
A heat index of 41°C or higher is considered to be in the “danger” level and poses health risks, according to Pagasa.
The highest heat index in the country on Tuesday was reported in Dagupan City, Pangasinan at 44.6°C.
Fourteen other areas in the country experienced dangerous heat index on Tuesday. /kga
