MANILA, Philippines — The Facebook account of Senator Nancy Binay was hacked three times in April, the senator said Wednesday.

Binay said she received a notification from Facebook regarding the attack on her  account.

The hackers, she said, changed  her name and the e-mail address registered in her account.

“Today Facebook notified me that my personal account has been disabled. This is the third time this month that my account has been disabled,” Binay said in a statement.

“Bukod dito, nakakatanggap din tayo ng messages from Facebook na may mga nagrereport at may sumusubok mag log-in sa aking account,” she added.

Binay said the timing of the hacking was questionable, especially as election day draws near.

“Alam naman natin na campaign season ngayon at malaking tulong ang social media sa kampanya. Nakakatakot lang kasi nakailang attempts na this month to hack my personal account,” Binay said.

The senator, who is also seeking Senate reelection, said she remains unsure of the motive behind the attack but cited her involvement in politics as a possible reason.

“Yung timing din kasi parang may koneksyon sa mga naging pahayag ko on certain issues. I’m not sure if this has something to do with local politics, or dahil tumatakbo ako for reelection in the Senate,” the senator said.

Following the attacks, Binay said her camp contacted Facebook to retrieve her account.

“We had to contact Facebook and explain to them that this account is my personal account and that hackers changed the name and email address of my account,” Binay said.   /muf
