MANILA, Philippines — Approximately 3,000 demonstrators from various labor groups converged at Mendiola, Manila to hold a protest action on Labor Day.
Despite the scorching heat, thousands of labor workers united on Wednesday to call on the government to increase the minimum wage to P750.
Carrying flags and tarpaulins, protesters also urged the government to end contractualization, a long time issue in the country.
Among the groups present were Kilusang Mayo Uno, Sentro, and Anak Pawis. The data were provided by traffic agency Metropolitan Manila Development Authority.
The groups who participated at the Mendiola rally are also expected to attend the rally set at Liwasang Bonifacio in the afternoon. /je
