NCRPO: 2,500 rallyists join Labor Day protest at Mendiola
MANILA, Philippines — Approximately 2,500 people joined the Labor Day protest at Mendiola, Manila, calling for the scrapping of the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) law, a national minimum wage, wage increase, and an end to contractualization, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said Wednesday.
As of 11:55 a.m., labor groups Kilusang Mayo Uno, Partidong Manggagawa and Federation of Free Workers, as well as Kabataan Partylist, among others, merged at the Mendiola Peace Arch, which is located near the Malacañang complex, and demanded government to heed their plea and uphold workers’ rights.
NCRPO said the protest has so far been“normal and peaceful.” /kga
