MANILA, Philippines — Around 50 members of Akbayan party-list and Sentro ng mga Nagkakaisa at Progresibong Manggagawa (Sentro) trooped to Welcome Rotonda on Labor Day, calling on government to implement the expanded maternity leave (EML) law.

The groups, led by Akbayan Rep. Tom Villarin, said the program was also to welcome the creation of the implementing rules and regulations for EML.

They warned companies of fines ranging from P20,000 up to P200,000 should they fail to comply with the expanded law on maternity leave.

They also asked Congress to pass the Security of Tenure bill, which may prevent employers from getting rid of women workers. /cbb
