Members of Sakdal, a peasant organization pushing for agrarian reform, staged a series of uprisings in the provinces of Laguna, Batangas, Bulacan, Rizal and Cavite after they were prohibited to hold meetings.
Some 100 Sakdal members died in confrontations with the police and military.
The radical group was founded in 1930 by Benigno Ramos, a former government clerk.
After the uprising, Ramos fled to Tokyo and two Sakdal members were arrested and charged with rebellion.
Acting Governor General J.R. Hayden declared that the Sakdal party would be protected with its right to freedom of speech and assembly.

Four Jesuit missionaries, led by Fr. Pedro Chirino, opened their first mission in Carigara town, Leyte province.
The Jesuits then sailed on small boats to Samar province the following year.
They established mission centers in the towns of Carigara and Dulag in Leyte, Catubig town in Northern Samar province and Barangay Tinago at Calbiga town in Samar.
The Jesuit missionaries crossed rough seas, mountains and rivers on foot to baptize and preach Christianity and minister to the sick.
They also established schools and taught catechism, reading and writing.
