MANILA, Philippines — No maintenance works will be conducted a week before and a week after the May 13 polls to ensure reliable power supply during the election, an official of the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) said Thursday.
NGCP Luzon System Operations Assistant Vice President Head Reynaldo Abadilla said this during a Senate committee on energy hearing when asked to give an overview of the projected power situation during the 2019 polls.
“Based on our planning in collaboration with the DOE (Department of Energy), yung (the) two weeks na period — one week before and one week after the election — we make sure na walang (that there is no) maintenance (work) during that time,” Abadilla said.
Moreover, Abadilla said that there is supposed to be a power reserve during the election period to ensure that no outages will occur.
“Supposedly without those forced outages na nangyari ngayon (that is happening now), we could see that we could secure the election period,” he said.
The NGCP facilitates the transmission of electricity from power generators and distribution utilities to the public. /ee
