MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police – Anti-Kidnapping Group (PNP-AKG) rescued a Korean national and arrested his abductor, a Korean businessman, during an operation in Makati City.
In its report on Tuesday, the PNP AKG said they rescued Hang Jongwook, 26, at the Chancellor Condominium in Rada, Legaspi Village in Makati City on Monday at 11:30 p.m.
The arrested suspect was identified as Sangmin Lee, 34, of 21-D Frabella 1, Rada Street, Legaspi Village, Makati City.
According to Jongwook’s father, he received a voice message from his son saying that he was snatched and was being beaten by his kidnapper.
The suspect then demanded $5 million for the release of Jongwook.
On April 8, Jongwook’s father sent an initial ransom money worth $17,000 through bitcoin.
But the abductors did not release Jongwook after receiving the ransom money.
