MANILA, Philippines — A 59-year-old man was arrested Wednesday after he shot dead his elder brother and his home companion in San Juan City, police said.
Roberto Bañez suddenly appeared at his brother’s house in Barangay Little Baguio late Tuesday night and started shooting Catalino Bañez, 76, who died on the spot; Maria Teresa Antiquera, who died at the hospital; and stay-in nurse Rhea Antonio, who was injured. The victims were merely watching TV when the suspect arrived, according to a police report.
Antonio managed to escape from the scene and was rushed for treatment to a nearby hospital, which informed authorities of the shooting incident.
San Juan City police eventually responded to the scene, where a brief gun fight ensued, wounding the suspect.
Policemen consequently captured the suspect, brought him to the hospital for treatment first before taking him to the police station.
Seized from the suspect a 12-gauge shotgun, a .45 caliber gun and a .22 caliber revolver, police said.
San Juan City police station commander Col. Ariel Fulo said investigation on the case is still ongoing, as of this posting, to determine the motive behind the attack. /kga
