MANILA, Philippines — Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio on Tuesday condoled with the families of the victims of the 6.1-magnitude quake that struck parts of Luzon late Monday afternoon.
“We condole with the families of those who died in Pampanga during the earthquake yesterday,” Duterte-Carpio, who is chair of the Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP), said in a statement.
The presidential daughter announced that HNP had canceled its campaign sortie in Bataan on April 26.
“We deemed it best to cancel the Limay, Bataan rally on April 26 to allow Pampanga and Bataan to focus on their post-incident activities,” she said.
Pampanga Gov. Lilia Pineda said 11 fatalities were killed while dozens more were missing after buildings collapsed and roads were damaged, causing power outages some Luzon provinces.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), said the quake that was centered in Castillejos town, Zambales struck at 5:11 pm.
The quake, which was also felt in Metro Manila, was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 21 kilometers. /je
