Guevarra taps NBI to track down ‘Bikoy,’ other people behind ‘Totoong Narco List’

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Justice (DOJ) has joined the hunt for the people behind the “Totoong Narco List” videos that implicated the family of President Rodrigo Duterte in the illegal drug trade.

Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said he ordered a fact-finding investigation to identify the people behind the series of videos and file possible criminal cases.

“I have given instructions to the DOJ Office of Cybercrime to coordinate with the NBI (National Bureau of Investigation) cybercrime unit and find out the source of these videos,” Guevarra told reporters Monday.

“The criminal charges would depend on the acts committed. The fact-finding team may look, for instance, if there is a basis for the filing of a cyber libel complaint,” he added.

On whether the video is part of the destabilization plot against the Duterte administration, Guevarra said he would leave the matter to the fact-finding team.

The probe is separate from the investigation being conducted by the Philippine National Police (PNP). /ee
