Gullas wants son, grandson in House

/ 07:57 AM December 14, 2011

After he steps down in 2013, Rep. Eduardo Gullas of Cebu’s 1st district said he wants family to replace him in office.

In a radio interview, Gullas said he won’t support Mimo Osmeña’s bid for a congressional seat in the first district despite supporting his father, former Cebu governor Lito Osmeña in the past.

“No, I cannot… because I am fielding either my son Didi who incidentally have always demurred (in the past) or my grandson Samsam,” Gullas said.

Gullas was referring to his son Gerald Anthony “Didi” Gullas, who served as the vice president for finance and administration of the University of the Visayas (UV).

Didi’s eldest son Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas is the assistant vice president for finance and administration of UV and team manager of UV Green Lancers.

Gullas said his decision to field either his son or grandson was not his own decision.

He said his leaders in the first district asked him to do so.

The first district covers Talisay, Carcar and Naga cities and towns of Minglanilla, San Fernando and Sibonga.

Gullas said he first asked his son to run for Congress in 2001.

But he said Didi declined since his youngest son Eduardo Gullas III was still in elementary school. Gullas III is now the youngest councilor of Talisay City.

Gullas said he would ask Didi again if he is now willing to run for congressman.

He said Samsam also has the skills and qualities to represent the 1st district of Cebu in Congress.

Gullas said Samsam celebrated his 26th birthday last Dec. 1, and by 2013, he will already be 28 years old.

“He graduated bachelor of science in Management and he was also the leadership awardee of the President Arroyo leadership award in his batch”, Gullas said in reference to Samsam.

Gullas said he is not interested to run for mayor in Talisay City and would rather manage his school, the University of Visayas.

“I would like to be the one to implement the institute for leadership, which I would like to have UV implemented for next year. It is the only the institute for leadership that I know of among all universities in the Philippines,” he said.
