WOMAN HURT IN ROBBERY
A 29-YEAR-OLD woman was injured when two motorcycle-riding men robbed her in barangay Estaca, Compostela town, northern Cebu.
Ellen Pusing, who works in a private firm at the Mactan Export Processing Zone in Lapu-Lapu City, sustained bruises in the body when the robbers pushed her to the ground.
Police said the robbers also tried to shoot the woman but, luckily, the gun malfunctioned.
Police said the woman was walking home about 6 p.m. when a motorcycle with two men on board stopped near her.
Police said the woman ran upon seeing the two suspicious-looking men.
The two men chased the woman and cornered her.
One of the men drew a gun, pointed it at the woman before taking the victim’s bag, which contained P3,000 cash, a cell phone worth P2,000 and other valuables.
After pushing the woman to the ground, the robber tried to shoot her but the gun misfired.
The robbers fled toward Liloan town.
The woman sought help from bystanders who brought her to Compostela municipal clinic.
Police conducted a hot-pursuit operation in Liloan for the arrest of the suspects but the suspects disappeared.
SPO3 Wilfredo Caturza, investigator of the Compostela police, identified one of the robbers through the rogues gallery of the police as Joseph “Papot” Baco.
Caturza said it was later learned that Baco was previously charged for robbery but was able to post bail. /CORRESPONDENT RHEA RUTH V. ROSELL
SCHOOL RANSACKED
CLOSE to P20,000 worth of valuables were taken by unidentified burglars who ransacked the principal’s office and some classrooms of an elementary school in barangay Dakit, Bogo City, northern Cebu
Taken from the Dakit Elementary School were an amplifier worth P2,800; two DVD players worth P7,000; two wireless microphones worth P6,570; and an extension wire worth P250, said police.
PO3 Edwin Dignos, desk officer of the Bogo City police, said it was schoolteacher Jocelyn Bercero, 33, who discovered the burglary.

CENTCOM WELCOMES new AFP CHIEF
THE CENTRAL Command welcomed the appointment of Lt. Gen. Jessie Dellosa as the new chief of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
Col. Christopher Tampus, public information officer of Centcom, said the Centcom could take advantage of Dellosa’s appointment since he was once assigned at Centcom.
Tampus said Dellosa served as deputy chief for more than two years in Centcom.
Tampus said Dellosa is familiar with the situation in the Visayas area.
Tampus described Dellosa as “ a proven leader and a proven warrior.”
