MANILA, Philippines — A total of 4,840 patients nationwide have been attended to by the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) for its Holy Week operations, according to an update posted on Friday morning.
Out of this number, PRC said that 15 of these patients have been transported to hospitals due to fainting, severe body pain, difficulty in breathing, or head trauma. Four other incidents were deemed major cases, as it involved seizures, unconsciousness, and bone fractures.
There were 212 minor cases stemming from light wounds, sprains, muscle cramps, jellyfish stings, and dizziness, while PRC also aided 26 patients for counseling and psychosocial support, and 43 were referred to other medical institutions.
PRC said the numbers were collated since April 14, Palm Sunday, from outposts in seaports, beaches and resorts, highways, churches, parks, and transport terminals all over the country.
As of 9:00 a.m., about 296 PRC personnel and have been mobilized in 71 first-aid stations and 18 welfare desks, while 38 ambulances have been dispatched for emergency situations.
According to previous reports, PRC is on a full alert status to allow its personnel to quickly respond to cases where medical attention may be needed. For emergencies and other related cases, the PRC may be reached by dialing 143 or 790-23-00. /jpv
