Cardinal Tagle celebrates Chrism Mass on Maundy Thursday

MANILA, Philippines — Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle celebrated on Maundy Thursday, April 18, the Chrism Mass at the Manila Cathedral.

Priests from various dioceses attended the Mass to celebrate the gift of priesthood and renew their commitment to priestly service.

During the Chrism Mass, bishops consecrate chrism or the holy oil used in different Catholic rituals like baptism, confirmation, and for anointing the sick.

Priests would then bring the holy oil to their parishes after the Mass.

This year’s Chrism Mass also recognized priests who celebrated milestones in their priesthood — Msgr. Tomas Gonzales for his 50 years in priesthood, Msgr. Dalmacio Eusebio Jr. and Rev. Fr. Kevin McHugh for their 60 years in priesthood, and Msgr. Ruben Limcaco for his 65 years in priesthood.

Cardinal Tagle will also preside the “washing of the feet” during the evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper at 5:00 p.m. Maundy Thursday. /kga
