Sara backs Peñas as Davao Sur gov
DIGOS CITY — In the fight for the highest post of Davao del Sur province, one Duterte ally will be fighting another Duterte ally in the upcoming midterm elections as Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio named Digos City Mayor Joseph Peñas as Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HnP) candidate for governor.
Peñas is running against reelectionist Gov. Douglas Cagas, the standard bearer of President Duterte’s political party, Partido Demokratiko Pilipino (PDP).
Carpio, who led the HnP’s senatorial caravan in a rally here on Tuesday, named Peñas the HnP standard bearer for governor as she campaigned for the HnP’s senatorial and local bets before about 10,000 supporters at Rizal Park here.
People expect a great fight between Peñas and Cagas for the province’ highest post in the May midterm elections especially as Peñas only won by more than 7,000 votes against Cagas in the race for Digos City mayor in the 2013 elections.
Duterte also promised to put up a Malasakit Center in Davao del Sur if HnP candidates get a landslide victory in the upcoming polls.
