Navotas offers free Wi-Fi in 42 hotspots

MANILA, Philippines — Navotas residents can now surf the internet for free after the city government launched 42 Wi-Fi hotspots in public areas.

Around 10,500 users can join NavoConnect WiFi at the same time, giving each one access to an hour of free wireless internet when they connect to a hotspot.

The Navotas City Hall, City Library, City Hospital, Centennial Park and Navotas Bus Terminal, in addition to selected health centers, housing projects and basketball courts, are among the places with Wi-Fi hotspots.

No need for login

Irish Cubillan of the Navotas City public information office said that users could automatically connect to the internet without the need to log in.

“Access to internet is one of the rights, according to the United Nations. We hope that through NavoConnect, residents will use the power of the internet to learn more and improve themselves,” Mayor John Rey Tiangco said.

However, he also warned users to “be careful [when surfing the web]. Not all information you find on the internet is true.”

Tiangco also advised parents to monitor their children’s online activity, saying: “There are many online trolls and bullies. You should make sure that they are safe from these online predators.”
