PDEA agent set to marry this week dies in highway mishap
COTABATO CITY, Philippines – An anti-narcotic agent set to marry his fiancee on Wednesday, April 17, died in a vehicular accident in South Upi, Maguindanao on Sunday, police said.
Police Brig. Gen. Graciano Mijares, director of police in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), said PDEA (Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency) agent Aljhun Carim was on his way to his fiancee’s hometown in Kalamansig town in Sultan Kudarat to prepare for the wedding ceremonies.
A light cargo truck hit the motorbike he was driving along the highway in Barangay Kuya in South Upi town at 9 p.m., Sunday.
Carim died due to severe head injuries.
Joel Jardin, the light truck driver, is the village councilman of Barangay Romongaob, also in South Upi.
Jardin is now detained at the South Upi municipal police station lock-up cell as Mijares directed the South Upi police to speed up the investigation and file appropriate charges against him. /ee
