MANILA, Philippines — A municipal councilor was arrested Sunday in an anti-drug operation in Buenavista, Agusan del Norte.

Municipal councilor Ronilo Bohol was arrested around 2:40 a.m. inside his residence at Purok 4, Barangay Matabao, Buenavista, Agusan del Norte for possession of “shabu,” Police Brigadier General Gilberto DC Cruz said in a police report.

Buenavista Municipal Police Station, Provincial Intelligence Branch and Provincial Mobile Force Company of Agusan Del Norte Police Provincial Office carried out the arrest following the warrant released by the Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 2 in Libertad, Butuan City.

Authorities from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Region 13 were also deployed to assist in the arrest.

Recovered from the suspect was a total of 22.4 grams of “shabu” valued at P264,320.

Bohol, who is currently detained at Buenavista MPS detention cell, will face charges in violation of Dangerous Drugs Act.

Cruz said the Philippine National Police (PNP) has directed police drug enforcement units to monitor politicians allegedly involved in drug-related activities.

“The PNP leadership directed our Drug Enforcement Units in the region down to the municipal level to validate information about politicians directly involved in illegal drug activities and arrest them,” Cruz said.

“No one is exempted in this fight against drugs,” he added. /je
