2 dead, 7 injured as truck rams into other vehicles, bikes in Taguig

MANILA, Philippines — Two persons died on the spot while several others were injured following a multiple collision involving seven vehicles in Taguig City Saturday morning.

A report from the Taguig Police showed that two jeepneys, two bikes, a 10-wheeler truck, a motorcycle, and a car were involved in the accident at 6:20 a.m. along C-6 Road in front of the Lakeshore in Taguig.

Investigation showed that truck driver Roman Mariñas Rafanan lost his brakes while traversing the southbound section of C-6 going to Rizal.

Because of malfunctioning brakes, Rafanan eventually lost control of the wheels before smashing into other vehicles on the road, report said.

According to the investigator, Police Staff Sergeant Agoncillo Maguide, the casualties were identified as Danilo Pedrosa Jr. and Gerald Iann Hernandez.

Meanwhile, the injured individuals were Ronald Ortega Villanueva, Jaime Ocfemia Berosil Jr., Rogelio Salinas Fernandez, Aldren Sepe, Christopher Aquino Dalangin, Christel Castro Layosa, and Cecile Marie Verin Moreno.

The truck driver was taken into custody by the police as criminal charges are being prepared by the Taguig police.

Taguig police station commander Police Col. Alex Santos also told INQUIRER.net that cases of reckless imprudence resulting in damage to property, multiple physical injuries, and multiple homicide will be filed against Rafanan following the incident.

He will also undergo drug and alcohol tests, Santos added. /jpv
