BAGUIO CITY, Philippines–Chief Justice Lucas Bersamin on Thursday cautioned the members of media to be mindful of “quarters who are out to be destructive.”
While he did not specify what or who these quarters are, he mentioned the need to be discerning, especially in this era of “fake news.”
“There is relative truth and there is ‘fake truth.’ I meant by that characterization to caution each of you to be discerning for only… thereby may you insulate yourselves from the manipulation of quarters all out to be destructive instead of being constructive,” Bersamin told members of media during the Pressing Matters: A Forum on Judiciary Coverage.
He pointed out that members of media and the organization they represent should remember that their obligation was “towards the people alone.”
“Being media persons, you should inform and not mislead and this, you can do only if you write or broadcast your reports accurately and responsibly,” he added./ac
