MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will deploy more than 1,600 traffic personnel to extend assistance to motorists during the Holy Week.

The agency said it would deploy the traffic personnel from April 17 until April 22 to major roads, transport hubs, and key areas to ensure smooth flow of vehicular traffic since it expects a surge in travelers.

“Traffic personnel will be fielded on traffic chokepoint areas in Metro Manila such as vicinity of bus terminals, roads leading to seaports, harbors, and airports; and major churches,” Taguinod said in a statement.

MMDA said it would conduct random or on-the-spot breath tests on bus drivers. Those who will fail the test would not be allowed to drive as they will be compelled to take a rest first.
