MANILA, Philippines — Senator Cynthia Villar said the presidency was part of someone’s “destiny” and she would not waste her time planning for it if it’s not for her.

“Would you agree that the presidency is destiny? That if it’s yours, it’s yours. If it’s not yours, it’s not yours. Why do you have to plan for it when it’s destiny,” Villar said in an interview over ABS CBN News Channel on Thursday.

“I will not waste my time planning for it when at the end of the day it’s not for me. I’m a very practical person,” said the senator who is seeking reelection in May.

Villar’s husband, former Senate President Manny Villar, ran for president in 2010 but lost to Benigno Aquino III.

The senator gave the same answer when asked about the possibility of running for vice president.

Being vice president, she said, was even harder, saying that being in that position meant having to follow the President “or else, you’re in a mess.”

“Kasi kung ako ang vice president, if I cannot follow my president, I’ll just keep quiet,” Villar said.

“There’s a study na pag ikaw ay vice president (at) palagi mong inaaway ang president, magiging unpopular ka,” she added.

She said it would be better if the president’s running mate would be automatically elected once he won the election. /cbb
