Maynilad urges customers to save water, warns of no service

MANILA, Philippines — Parts of Maynilad Water Inc.’s concession area in the western sector of Metro Manila might experience water service interruptions during the dry season, the company said Wednesday.

“Most likely, magkakaroon [ng water interruptions,] kasi malakas ang pangangailangan ng tubig ngayon at mainit ang panahon,” Jennifer Rufo, head of corporate communication services of Maynilad, told dzMM on Wednesday.

“Maraming lugar, sa ilang bahagi ng Caloocan City, Quezon City at Valenzuela City,” she said, referring to places in its service area that might experience no water.

Rufo then advised the public to save water, saying she could not promise that the water service interruptions would not happen daily.

At present, Rufo said some of its customers were already experiencing water service interruptions during off peak hours or early hours of the day.

“Sa ngayon, inaabisuhan natin ang mga customers na mag-ipon [ng tubig] kasi right now kahit papaano nali-limit namin ang interruption during off peak hours,” Rufo said.

However, Maynilad assured its customers that their primary source of water supply, Angat Dam in Bulacan had not reached its critical level.

“Sa ngayon, nakikita namin na okay pa ang Angat [Dam]. [Nasa] 188.86 meters pa,” Rufo said.

Maynilad, she said, had a new treatment plant along the Laguna Lake as an alternative source of water.

“Itong bagong treatment plant sa Laguna Lake, nakakatulong as an alternative source para ‘di tayo naka-depend masyado sa Angat Dam,” Rufo said.

Meanwhile, Maynilad notified customers regarding annual maintenance activities that it usually sets during the Holy Week, when many water consumers go to the provinces.

“Please give us today or tomorrow para i-anunsyo yung schedule ng mga aktibidad na ito,” she said. /cbb
