PILAR, BATAAN — Interior Secretary Eduardo Año on Tuesday said President Duterte has ordered the Philippine Veterans Office to speed up the release of P50 million monthly financial assistance for World War II veterans.

Año said the P50 million cash aid is for war veterans’ hospital and medical expenses.

He represented the President in the 77th commemoration of the Day of Valor at the Mount Samat National Shrine here.

Mr. Duterte was expected to lead the commemoration in Jolo, Sulu.

According to Malacañang, Duterte would lead the ceremony at Camp General Teodulfo Bautista Headquarters in Barangay Busbus on Tuesday afternoon.

It was Vice President Leni Robredo who addressed some 4,000 people, including surviving war veterans and their relatives, during the commemoration here.

Last year, the President did not also attend the rites here because he was in China to attend a business forum.
