PILAR, BATAAN — Vice President Leni Robredo on Tuesday called on Filipinos to emulate the bravery of the heroes of Bataan in fighting wrongdoings in the country as she led the 77th commemoration of the Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Valor) at the Mount Samat National Shrine here.

“Sana ang kanilang pinagdaanan ay maging inspirasyon sa pakikipaglaban sa katiwalaan … sana maging matapang din tayo gaya nila (Let’s hope their struggle will be an inspiration to our fight against corruption … let’s hope we will also be brave like them),” Robredo said here after the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new view deck at the shrine.

More than 4,000 people, including war veterans and their relatives, attended the commemoration here.

Earlier, Robredo said Filipinos should stand up against “invaders and an abusive regime” to honor the bravery of those who fought for the country’s freedom.

She said the Philippines is the cradle of the valiant and that its citizens “must live up to that every day.
