MANILA, Philippines — Those who will travel during the Holy Week could expect shorter queues in the airports, particularly at immigration counters, an official of the Bureau of Immigration assured (BI) Tuesday.
“We’re expecting lighter Holy Week ngayon, mas maikli po ang pila as compared to the previous years,” BI spokesperson Dana Sandoval said in an interview over dzMM.
She said the BI has recently hired 300 additional immigration officers to boost up their services and help lighten the load during the expected influx of passengers during Holy Week.
The electronic gates installed in airports would also help in easing the holiday rush, Sandoval added.
“Marami na po tayong dinagdag na officers. In recent batches, for immigration officers, naghire po tayo ng 300 na additional immigration officers,” Sandoval said.
“Nilagay po natin yan sa major airports, not just in Naia (Ninoy Aquino International Airport), Cebu, Davao, so marami pong naidagdag natin, also po pati yung mga e-gates, malaki po ‘yung maitutulong maipabilis ‘yung pila natin,” she added.
She noted that the electronic gates would only take eight to 15 seconds to process a passenger, and this would allow queues to move faster. /muf
