MANILA, Philippines—The decision to impeach Chief Justice Renato Corona is for the majority of constituents of Congressmen who signed the complaint, Justice Secretary Leila De Lima said.

“This is for the majority of their constituents. This is the reason why it is not difficult to convince them. This is the beauty of doing something right,” DeLima said.

She also defended President Benigno Aquino III of allegations that he used as carrot on a stick the poverty development alleviation fund to get the congressmen to sign the impeachment complaint.

“This administration is not capable of doing that. He does not know how to bribe or lie. As you can see, all acts of Congress are sanctioned by the Constitution,” she added.

“The fact that majority supported it means it is an exercise of the sovereign will,” she added.
