MANILA, Philippines — More than 59 million or 93 percent of the ballots needed for the May elections have been printed, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said Monday.

In a press briefing, Comelec Commissioner James Jimenez said 59, 298, 986 ballots were already printed as of April 7, 2019. This pegged the completion rate to 93.15 percent.

The poll body noted that the remaining ballots that still need to be printed are for the National Capital Region.

The printing of the remaining 4,363, 495 is expected to be completed within the week, Jimenez noted.

Ballot printing started on Feb. 9, 2019. Printing was initially scheduled to begin on Jan. 22, 2019 but was moved to a later date due to a delay in the release of the final list of candidates. /ee
