Two arrested in Valenzuela for punching traffic enforcer

MANILA, Philippines — Two persons were arrested after punching a traffic enforcer along MacArthur Highway in Valenzuela City for allegedly letting go a motorist whom they had an argument with.

According to the Northern Police District (NPD), traffic enforcer Leonardo Lim, 37, from Maysan in Valenzuela, saw suspects Earvin Ray Mariano, 23, from Valenzuela; and Michael Earl Guevarra, 27 from Obando, Bulacan quarreling with a person aboard a white Mitsubishi Pajero in Malanday, Valenzuela.

Lim claimed that he tried to pacify both parties, including Mariano and Guevarra who seemed to be drunk.  However, while he was talking with the two, the man aboard the Pajero sped away and left the area.

This led the two to be mad at Lim, accusing him that he intentionally allowed the motorist to leave.  Both punched the traffic enforcer several times, hitting him at his ears.

When another traffic enforcer, identified as Alvin Nastor, 38, also from Valenzuela, saw the incident, he immediately requested assistance from the Police Community Precinct-6 (PCP-6).

Mariano and Guevarra are currently in the custody of Valenzuela police. Cases for physical injury and direct assault upon agent in authority will be filed against them before the Valenzuela City Prosecutor’s Office. /je
