Meralco rates up in April billing

MANILA, Philippines – Meralco is increasing its power rates by 6.33 centavos per kilowatt-hour this April.

The power distributor said in a statement that the rate increase is mainly due to higher prices at the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market as well as the depreciation of the peso against the US dollar.

For the typical household that consumes 200 kwh a month, the rate hike means an additional P13 in the bill. / gsg
